SOUTHERN COMFORTS
by Kathleen Clark,
Director Richard Cowan
A sweet comedy about two seventy-ish singles who meet purely by chance,
their common interest is baseball. Amanda, a petite, perky, grey-blonde
church volunteer is charming, self-possessed, and shrewd. Her Southern
accent and ways soon wear down the tough, Northern hide of Gus, who had
suffered through a long, lonely marriage. The thought of sex, let alone
a discussion of such, gives him hyperventilation. Yet, he eventually
develops dependence and desire. The characters achieve a sense of
intimacy and chemistry, both mutually and with their audience.
